"...Were you there when the Pharoh
commisioned the Sphinx? If you were and you are, you're a Jellical
cat..."
A stage made to look like a junkyard, a
teriffic score based on a famous poet's work, and a bunch of dancers
dressed to look like felines. What do you get from all that? The
CATS experience.
I was ten when I got to experience it. My best friend Matt's "Big
Brother" loaned me the soundtrack because of my love of musicals, and
I fell in love with the whimsical score. A few days later my dad saw
an add for the CATS tour heading to Oakland, and he promised to take me if I
payed for my ticket. It was an amazing two or so hours, especially
for me who hardly got to see any professional theater. I'd seen the
tour of Peter Pan when I was nine, and all my other experiences were local
theater. I think that's when I really knew what I wanted to do. Since
then my dream for life has been the same. To act professionally in
musicals. I don't know how CATS
has effected other people, but in a way
it changed my life.
